The Nose you’ve always wanted…………
The nose occupies a prominent position on your face. If it is too large or crooked, your face may appear unbalanced. Some people are displeased with the nose they are born with, and for others, an injury may have have distorted their nose. The nose is the most defining feature of the face, even a slight change can greatly improve one’s appearance.
A rhinoplasty or “nose job” is probably the best known facial plastic procedure. The goal of a rhinoplasty is to improve the appearance of the nose, making it harmonize better with other facial features. Age, ethnic background, and skin type are important factors in consideration for your surgery.

Good candidates for rhinoplasty:
A good candidate for rhinoplasty is a patient with a nose that is out of proportion with the rest of the face, emotionally stable, in good health and with realistic expectations. Expectations are an important element in what makes a good candidate for a rhinoplasty.
You may well be considered a good candidate for rhinoplasty cosmetic facial plastic surgery if...
- Your nose appears too large for your face.
- You have a large bump or hump on the nasal bridge when viewed in profile.
- Your nasal tip plunges or droops.
- Your nasal tip is thickened.
- Your nose is crooked.
- You have experienced an injury that has made your nose "off center".
Rhinoplasty is often performed in conjunction with septal surgery to help straighten the divider between the nostrils. This procedure is done to relieve obstructions and to improve breathing. Many patients have chin augmentation surgery in conjunction with rhinoplasty to provide harmony to the facial profile. A chin augmentation utilizes a material with practically the same consistency as the soft tissue of the jaw and is surgically implanted in front of the chin.
By definition, rhinoplasty nose surgery is reshaping of the nose that can be done under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia. There are two options that Dr. Johnson can use for your surgery: closed rhinoplasty and open rhinoplasty. In closed rhinoplasty, the incisions are made on the inside of the nose. In open rhinoplasty, an incision is made across the columella, between the nostrils, to access the inside of the nose. The open technique is reserved for more complicated cases.
The rhinoplasty surgical procedure then involves reshaping or rearranging the cartilage and bone of the nose to provide a newly shaped nose. The tissues of the nose are then redraped over the new framework of the nose and the incisions are closed. A nasal splint is applied to the outside of the nose to assist in retaining the new shape of the nose as it heals after rhinoplasty.
Following the rhinoplasty nasal surgery, a nasal splint will be placed on the nose to protect it and allow it to heal for at least five to seven days. Immediately following rhinoplasty nose surgery, you may experience minor swelling and bruising around the eyes. The bruising may be around the eyes or extend to the entire face. Most of the swelling and bruising should disappear in about seven days. Pain medication will be prescribed to alleviate any discomfort. Ice packs around the eyes are used for one to two days to reduce swelling and bruising.
Dr. Johnson recommends that you keep your head elevated for several days following rhinoplasty cosmetic nasal surgery. He also recommends that you limit your activities for a week following rhinoplasty surgery. No heavy lifting, bending or straining for one week.
Dr. Johnson will perform your surgical procedure only in a hospital or ambulatory surgery center setting. Most surgery will take place in an outpatient venue, allowing the patient to return home on the same day of the rhinoplasty nasal surgery procedure. Rhinoplasty can be performed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia.
Rhinoplasty cosmetic nasal surgery can help to rejuvenate your face and invigorate your zest for life. With the help of Dr. Johnson, you too, can look and feel better than ever.
